The history of screen-printing t-shirts is very interesting. In general screen-printing is the process of forcing ink, by pressing with a squeegee, through the mesh of a stretched screen, on a frame, onto the object to be printed. Historians are not certain where or how this screen-printing process was discovered but the first modern form originated in Europe around 1850. The process started in the U.S.A. about year 1911.

The Screen Printing Method involves ink that is forced through a screen made of silk or other material onto the substrate being printed. The process starts with artwork. Each color of the design requires a screen so the artwork is seperated into its component colors. This is done on the computer and each color separation is printed.

Next screens are prepared. The screen holds a nylon mesh stretched over it. The mesh is coated with a light sensitive emulsion that allows the ink to pass when printed. Once the ink is applied then the t-shirt must briefly pass through a dryer to ensure the design is fixated to the t-shirt.
